As part of Florida International University's 22nd annual celebration of the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Dr. Tudor Parfitt, President Navan Professor of Sephardic and Mizrahi Studies at FIU's School of International and Political Affairs will offer a lecture on January 29th at 5 p.m. in the Graham Center, GC 140. Professor Parfitt's talk is entitled "Let My People Go: African Americans and the Hebrew Bible." It will examine the influence of motifs from the Old Testament on African American movements and culture from the beginning of the 19th century right up to the time of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event is free and open to the public.
