Why Democracy Needs the Humanities
|Venue:||Green Library 220, FIU campus|
Humanist activities address the question of what it means to be a human being. But there are interests, inside and outside of the academy, that undermine the value of the humanities, imposing on us particular meanings to our lives not of our choosing.
How can we promote and protect human flourishing in the midst of increasing technological and economic imperatives? What are the responsibilities of citizenship and how do the humanities help define them? What is it to be a human being anyway? This event is free and open to the public.
